As businesses, we are all keen to reduce our environmental
footprint and very conscious of the high CO2 emissions
that can be generated by domestic and international travel.
Although Portman Travel does not conform to recognised
environmental standards, we know that climate change and what the
world can do to help protect the environment have never been more
important.
In this respect, we aim to sustain and improve our natural
environment for the benefit of everyone. Portman Travel
was the UK's first travel management company to enable its
customers to offset carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
generated by their domestic and international travel. Click here to

Portman Travel are Committed to Continual Improvement
We are committed to continual improvement in our environmental
performance, by improving the efficiency with which we use
resources. We also aim to comply with all relevant environmental
regulation and legislations.
For example, Portman Travel actively encourages employees to
participate in activities that aim to minimise our environmental
impact. We have identified areas where we are able to make
changes to reduce any impact we may have as outlined below:
1. Disposing of waste products - recycling of materials
throughout the branch network including the recycling of mobile
phones
2. Reduction in use of paper - we use the intranet and e-mail
for most communications and our Christmas cards last year were
printed on recycled paper. In addition, our proposals, when
requested as hard copy, are printed on recycled paper.
3. CO2 emissions - we have put a limit on the CO2 emissions for
company cars.
Internal Steering Group for Corporate Social
Responsibility
As we recognise the importance of having an appropriate
effective strategy that reduces the impact of the business on the
environment, Portman Travel has appointed an internal steering
group, who are looking at all aspects of corporate social
responsibility including the environment.
Some of future actions that have been highlighted by the group
include:
- Cut down on use of energy by switching off equipment and lights
when not needed.
- Turn down heating where possible.
- Ensure purchased equipment is as energy efficient as
possible.
- Ensure mailing lists and databases are up to date.
- Cancelling junk mail.
- Use of more recycled products.
- Introduce recycling bins at all branches for as much waste as
possible.
Our Suppliers Adopt Good Environmental Standards
We also encourage our suppliers to adopt the highest
environmental standards and promote and inform on green initiatives
via our Company Magazine. This magazine is distributed to all of
our clients who have expressed an interest in receiving the
publication and will ensure that client's travellers are kept up to
date with any new green initiatives.
